Hi! I’m Ella, the face behind Poetic Peach.

How I started traveling
I grew up on a remote island in Alaska, and from a young age, I wanted to explore the world. After graduating high school, I attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. A part of the curriculum was to spend 300+ days at sea on merchant vessels. I was fortunate enough to travel to 12 different countries and 8 different American cities between the ages of 19 and 20. Safe to say, I became addicted to traveling!

After college, I joined the Navy and did two deployments on a submarine (crazy, I know!). On deployment and during the little off time I had, I was able to travel to five more countries. After my service obligation ended, I started a family and moved to the Southwest part of the U.S.

Now as a mother, I love traveling even more! Now it means I get to share all of the experiences tof he world with my baby. To me there is nothing more amazing then seeing my daughter experience the world. I’m still trying to navigate the logistics and stress with traveling with a baby (if you have any experience or tips please message me!), but the challenge is well worth the struggle!

How I got into poetry
Poetry was always something that grounded me and helped me channel my emotions, thoughts and experiences into works of art. While traveling, I’m often reflecting a lot about what I’ve seen and who I’ve interacted with. Other times the new environment helps me sort through thoughts about my own life history. In any case, I try and shape these thoughts into poetry. Think of it as a journal if you will but instead of free flowing thoughts, it’s curated poems.
Combining my two loves, travel and poetry, Poetic Peach was born!
Who is Poetic Peach?

Other fun facts about me…

- My hometown is the rainiest city in America where people live. Even though I no longer live there, I still feel guilty if I don’t spend time in the sunshine when it’s sunny outside.
- Favorite destination visited I’ve visited so far: Singapore!
- I’m a big time advocate for sustainable travel and eco-friendly practices. I even started a club in college called the Sustainability Alliance focused on renewable energy and recycling! While traveling and living my everyday life, I try and minimize waste and minimize pollution/harmful emmisions as much as possible.
- I am obsessed with all of Studio Ghibli films. Howl’s Moving Castle is my all time favorite. When my daughter is a little older, I’ll be taking her to the Ghibli Park in Japan 🙂
- Coolest wildlife I’ve seen: Tiger shark in the Indian Ocean
- I learned how to ride a motorcycle when I was 23 and fell in love with riding.
- Favorite poem: “The Charge of the Light Brigade” By Alfred, Lord Tennyson
